J7 Task Force Statement on the Current Situation in the Middle East

New York, New York, June 13, 2025 … The J7 Task Force today issued the following statement in response to the current situation in the Middle East:

Our communities stand with Israel as it takes action against Iran which poses a demonstrated threat to Diaspora Jewish communities.  Its overt antisemitic statements, sponsorship of terrorism, and track record of targeting Jews around the world constitute a threat that cannot be tolerated.

Below are excerpts from statements by our communities:

Argentina - DAIA

"We in the DAIA reaffirm our commitment to the security of the Jewish people and the right of the State of Israel to protect its integrity in the face of specific threats.

A nuclear-capable Iran represents an existential threat not only to Israel, but also to the region, the international order and the Jewish communities of the Diaspora."

Australia - Executive Council of Australia Jewry

"Jewish Australians will be going into the Sabbath praying for the people of Israel and for the safety of Iranian civilians. We live in the hope that with this necessary act of force, the path to a peaceful Middle East is distinctly clearer. We are of course concerned by the implications of this latest escalation but have complete faith in our security agencies and police to keep us all safe but remind the community to remain vigilant."

Canada - Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs

"The Iranian regime is one of the greatest threats to global peace and security. Among its many victims are 55 Canadians killed when Iran shot down a Ukrainian civilian airliner in 2020. Iranian agents continue to pose a threat within Canada, as seen in a recent Iranian plot to assassinate former Liberal Justice Minister Irwin Cotler.

The international community must not allow the Iranian regime to acquire the means to threaten millions of lives in the Middle East, Europe, and ultimately here in North America. Countries like Canada that value democracy and reject terrorism must stand firmly in support of Israel’s right to defend itself, especially against the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran."

France - CRIF

Germany - Central Council of Jews in Germany

"The German government must stand firmly on Israel's side in this situation. A nuclear-armed Iran would clearly also threaten the security of Germany and Europe. There is no reason why this act should lead to anti-Semitic rallies and worse - but the past shows that this is unfortunately to be feared."

United Kingdom - Board of Deputies of British Jews

“We express our deep solidarity with the Israeli people at this time, and pray for their safety and security.

We affirm Israel’s right to defend itself against threats in the region, and call on the UK Government to maintain its active support for Israel’s defence against the murderous Iranian Regime.

United States - ADL

"Tonight’s Israeli strike on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear facilities and capabilities was an act of self-defense. It follows decades of IAEA-confirmed violations by the Iranian regime of its nonproliferation commitments.

A nuclear-armed Iran would pose an existential and grave threat to Israel, the region, the global community, and as demonstrated on many occasions, a lethal threat to Diaspora Jewry."

United States - Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations

"The Conference of Presidents affirms Israel’s sovereign right to defend itself against existential threats. As the central coordinating body of the American Jewish community, we expect the United States and responsible members of the international community to stand with Israel as it confronts the Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions. Preventing a nuclear Iran is not only a moral obligation—it is a vital American and global strategic interest."

The J7 Large Communities’ Task Force Against Antisemitism was formed in July 2023 response to increasing rates of antisemitism around the world and comprises major Jewish organizations in Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.
